- In a 10-12 ounce microwave-safe mug, add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Whisk with a fork until well combined and there are no lumps.
- Pour in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Stir with the fork until the batter is smooth and there are no dry spots at the bottom, but be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, if using.
- Place the mug in the microwave and cook on high for 70-90 seconds. The surface of the cake should look set but still be moist.
- Carefully remove the mug from the microwave. Let it cool for 1-2 minutes before serving. The cake will be very hot. Enjoy straight from the mug!
