Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the stick of butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt completely.
- In a medium bowl, combine the self-rising flour, sugar, and milk. Whisk until the batter is smooth.
- Once the butter is melted, carefully remove the hot dish from the oven. Pour the prepared batter directly over the melted butter. Do not stir.
- Spoon the undrained canned peaches evenly over the batter. Do not stir. The batter will rise up and around the peaches as it bakes.
- If desired, sprinkle a little cinnamon over the top.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the cobbler cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the sauce to set.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the classic experience.
Do not stir the ingredients after layering them in the baking dish; this is key to the texture.
You can substitute fresh peaches; simply peel, slice, and toss with 1/2 cup of sugar before adding.
